Alma Lazarevska

is a novelist, essayist, short story writer and journalist. Her publications include: Sarajevski Pasijans (Sarajevo Solitaire); Smrt u muzeju moderne umjetnosti (Death in the Modern Art Museum); U znaku ru?e (In the sign of the Rose); Biljke su nešto drugo (Plants are something else). She lives and works in Sarajevo.

Blessed be the day

Bosnian novelist Alma Lazarevska remembers the siege of Sarajevo obliquely, as the background to a personal loss unconnected to the plight of the city. She thereby implicitly critiques the politicization of the siege, which is commemorated this year.
