Hella S. Haasse

(b.1918 in Batavia, modern-day Jakarta) is a Dutch novelist, well-known for her historical fiction. Her debut collection of poems was called Stroomversnelling (Momentum, 1945), and her novels include Oeroeg (1948), Het woud der verwachting (In a Dark Wood Wandering, 1949), De ingewijden (The Insiders, 1957), and Mevrouw Bentinck of Onverenigbaarheid van karakter (Mrs Bentinck or Irreconcilable in Character, 1978).
